About us

The IAG Job Club is an Information, Advice & Guidance organisation that was officially opened in January 2012 and is based in central Sutton Coldfield. It was founded by Mike Doherty and Barry Connolly, two highly trained Advisers with over 20 years of experience working within the Welfare to Work sector. Barry is also a Teacher and has previously taught English and Maths. 
Following their joint redundancy in 2011 they decided to put their knowledge and experience to good use and set about forming a Job Club devoted to supporting local unemployed people.
"It was tough to find ourselves on the other side of the fence" says Mike in reference to their redundancy in 2011. "Barry and myself aren't the type of people to sit around watching daytime TV simply because we reached retirement age so we made a pledge to carry on and to start a voluntary organisation ourselves". Mike continues "The personal touch and comprehensive support for unemployed people is missing in many over stretched public services such as Jobcentre Plus so we wanted to fill that void. We've been fortunate in achieving funding so far with local services and private donations equally helping to sustain us as an organisation but obviously funding is an ongoing requirement and one which we have to continually seek".
The IAG Job Club is also assisted by other volunteers including former HR Consultant, Alison Hayes.  Alison has organised 1to1 sessions with unemployed attendees of the club to share her knowledge of the employer recruitment process and how to best sell yourself as a candidate for a specific job role. Her advice has proven invaluable to many. Since 2012 there have been 1200 people who have attended IAG and 726 of those have managed to find sustained employment.

Monday to Thursday 9:30am to 2:30pm
